COVID-19 Update 03.15.2020

Sunday, March 15, 2020

Cherry Families,

Please refer to the following important updates regarding our current circumstances surrounding the school closures due to COVID-19.

Meals for Students
Bay City ISD will be serving free “to-go” meals at Linnie Roberts Elementary and Bay City Junior High from 10 AM till 12 noon, March 16-20th to district families. Families are to drive up in the bus lane and remain in their vehicles, and meals will be handed to them. One meal per student in the car will be distributed. (So if there are four students in a specific vehicle, then four meals will be distributed to that car.) We are encouraging our families to drive up, rather than walk-up, in order to follow CDC recommendations regarding “social distancing.”

At-Home Learning
Our campus leadership team wants to ensure that our Cherry students are continuing to learn and grow during this time of school closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  We have compiled a variety of digital learning platforms, and will be creating hard copies of some resources as well, to be made available at our food distribution sites at Linnie Roberts Elementary and Bay City Junior High School, as well as at our local H-E-B grocery store in Bay City.  We also plan to mail resources home to all current Cherry students.  If your mailing address has recently changed, please notify Mrs. Christi Lara, campus PEIMS clerk, at clara@baycityisd.org to ensure that we are able to get these resources to you.

Social Media Platforms for Updates
We encourage you to "like" or follow the following social media platforms for campus and district updates.  Our Cherry teachers and administrators plan to post videos of lessons and stories to our Cherry Facebook page throughout the closure, so this will also be helpful for at-home learning.  Remember to refer to our district website for full updates, at www.bcblackcats.net.

Maintaining Health and SafetyThe most important thing any of us can do at this time is to remain calm and try to stay healthy.  Social distancing will be key to slowing the spread of COVID-19.  We encourage our families to practice social distancing and good hygiene as outlined by the CDC.  Bay City ISD is committed to monitoring the situation as it changes, and we will keep our stakeholders informed along the way.
